Can I put whitening gel in my clear aligners?
Leave whitening gel out of your aligners unless your treating clinician has recommended that exact product for your trays and told you how to use it. Some whitening systems are designed for specific aligners. A good fit alone cannot tell you whether a gel is suitable. Keep to your prescribed aligner wear schedule while you check.

Which tray and which gel are you actually using?
Check the name on the gel package and the label on your current tray or its bag. A tray that moves your teeth, a retainer worn after treatment and a custom whitening tray can look much alike. Your clinician needs to know which one you have before advising how to use it.
If a dentist supplied the gel and an orthodontist elsewhere manages your aligners, ask both teams to agree on the tray and timing. You can ask, “Does this gel go into tray 12, or should I use a separate tray?” Keep wearing your aligners as prescribed while you wait for an answer.
What if an attachment or a front filling looks darker?
Point out the exact spot when you smile. Whitening lightens natural tooth structure. Tooth-coloured filling material and crowns keep their shade, so a contrast that was small before treatment may become easier to see. If an attachment is on a visible front tooth, ask when your orthodontist plans to remove it and when it makes sense to reassess the colour. Leave the attachment in place.
What if one tooth starts hurting?
If a particular tooth starts hurting after you use gel, pause whitening and contact your dental team. Tell them when you last changed aligners, when you used the gel, and whether cold water or biting sets off the pain. Those details help them assess a tooth that keeps hurting. Ask the orthodontist before changing trays or shortening wear time.
What should I bring to a visit in Seoul?
For a visit near HUFS Station, bring your current aligners, the gel package or a photo of its label, and the date of your next tray change. If your usual orthodontist is abroad, bring their written instructions. Before leaving, ask who will advise on whitening and who will handle a tray that stops fitting.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use gel left over from an older whitening kit?
Bring the packaging or a photo to your dental team. A product previously prescribed for a separate whitening tray needs its own compatibility check before use in an aligner.
My next set of trays is due tomorrow. Should I delay the change to finish whitening?
Follow your orthodontist’s tray-change instructions. Tell them the change date and ask how to fit any prescribed whitening around it.
